But almost none of the guides written about "IVF in Nigeria" actually explain the part that determines whether a diaspora family's journey succeeds or fails: how embryos, eggs, sperm, and stem cells physically get in and out of the country, intact and viable.

Moving frozen reproductive material into or out of Nigeria involves several layers that a general logistics provider is rarely equipped to manage correctly:

Nigeria's import framework now runs through the NICIS II Single Window Trade Portal, integrating Nigeria Customs Service, NAFDAC, SON, and the Central Bank of Nigeria into a single digital process. Depending on classification, shipments may require Form M (the CBN foreign exchange instrument for imports over $1,000), NAFDAC documentation given biological materials fall under its regulatory remit, and accurate consignment paperwork that matches exactly across every document — mismatches are the single most common cause of clearance delays.
Two regulatory systems have to line up simultaneously. Your shipment needs to satisfy the exporting country's rules (an HFEA Special Direction from the UK, EU Tissue and Cells Directive compliance, FDA requirements from the US) and Nigeria's import and customs requirements — with paperwork that's consistent across both.
On-the-ground handover matters as much as the flight. A shipment isn't safely delivered until it's placed directly into the hands of the receiving clinic's embryologist — not left with a general receiving desk, a hotel, or a third-party agent.
