Is IVF available in Oman?
Yes. IVF is offered in Oman at government hospitals and private fertility clinics, mainly in Muscat. Services include IVF, ICSI, embryo freezing and frozen embryo transfer.
Many Omani patients also have treatment in the UAE, India, the UK or Europe, and later want their frozen embryos brought home for transfer. Expatriate families in Oman often have embryos stored in their home countries. Both situations mean moving frozen biomaterial across borders safely.
What are the IVF laws in Oman?
Oman follows Islamic principles on assisted reproduction. In summary [VERIFY: the governing Ministry of Health regulation]:
Married couples only. IVF is available only to a husband and wife in an existing marriage, with the consent of both.
No donor eggs, sperm or embryos. Only the couple's own eggs and sperm may be used.
No surrogacy. Surrogacy is not permitted.
Storage limits. Frozen eggs can be stored for an initial five years, after which storage is renewed annually.
What this means for transport: embryos, sperm and eggs brought into Oman must belong to the married couple being treated. Donor material cannot be imported for use in Oman. The receiving clinic will normally need your marriage certificate, consents and records from the sending clinic before accepting a shipment, and we confirm its exact requirements before every transport.
Sperm transport to and from Oman
We move frozen sperm for married couples where the husband has frozen sperm at a clinic abroad, for example while working or studying overseas, or before medical treatment. We collect it in a −196°C dry shipper and hand-carry it to the Omani clinic, so the couple's treatment can go ahead without him needing to travel on the day.
Embryo transport to and from Oman
This is our most common Oman request. Couples who created embryos at a clinic in the UK, Europe, India, the UAE or elsewhere ask us to bring them home for frozen embryo transfer in Oman. Families leaving Oman ask us to take their embryos to a clinic in their new country. We collect the embryos, stay with them through every checkpoint, and hand them to the receiving embryologist.
Egg transport to and from Oman
